The Brighter side of Darkness

Isis Kiosk, Aswan, Egypt

Isis Kiosk in Aswan is one of the most important remains of Philae. The Temple of Philae [now in another island after UNESCO moved the entire temple region from frequently flooded island to another higher place] hosts some of the most remarkable monuments of that era. Ancient Egyptians considered Sun as their God and most temples around were symbolic to Sun. Temple of Philae housed the tomb of Osiris [Osiris – The god of the Afterlife] and the Obelisk of Philae.

One interesting aspect of this Philae temple was its location. The Temple of Philae was situated on the line of Tropic of Cancer. Temple vicinities were over filled with shadows of high raised walls. Only time when the shadows slightly lifted was when the Sun reached the highest position.

Isis Kiosk [also called as Trajan’s Kiosk, named after the King & Pharaoh Trajan] is one of the most beautiful & most historic monuments in Philae. This was constructed outside the Main Temple building and it had large open area all around it and no shadow of the high raised Temple walls fell on it. Offerings were made to the Egyptian God Osiris at this Kiosk.

Egypt as a country with millions of such great historic monuments depends mainly on two merely-rewarding occupations of people. One Employment at the Suez and the other in the Travel & Tourism industry. Most degrees are dealt with Tourism & History. Young graduates seek occupation in Travel & Tourism and returns form their daily to yearly wages.

Of all the other scarce things, one thing has been apparently abundant in this country. Dictatorship. For a country which has such a great History behind, the recent history has been awful. Over the years, the rulers here have managed to loot the country and blinded the fellow citizens. Over the century, Rulers of Egypt have sold many of its most beautiful monuments to other countries in the name Economic unwell. Of the many, Obelisks have been sold to countries like England, Italy.

This above picture was the last picture I took before leaving Temple Island of Aswan for the day. Today, as we know, Egyptians have started an unanimous fight against such unlawful and corrupted governing body. Let us hope that the crisis situation in Egypt will ease at the earliest and peace will prevail. Hope the eternal historic beauty of Egypt remains unharmed.

Lets hope their Sun God will bring in a brighter side to their darkness.
